About the Yoshimoto 3D

Missions

The Yoshimoto Collection are the set of specimens which consists of about 400 marvelous taxidermy or mounted skins. However, the 80 percent of the collection are not published except for some opportunity for extra exhibition or the annual open laboratory, thought the 20 percent of them are in the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo. The project Yoshimoto Collection 3D aims to give much more accessibility to the specimens for people all over the world with digitization technology and the repository on the Web. The number of models will be updated near the future.

Methods

All of the models have been captured using the methods of photogrammetry with hundreds of images taken by an SLR camera mounted on a tripod. Photogrammetry softwares: Autodesk® ReMake and Agisoft PhotoScan have been used to make 3D digital models. We’ve used Pixologic™ ZBrush for remake to improve models as needed. The models have been scaled on the photogrammetry softwares with point markers were shot with the specimens.

Some of the taxidermy 3D models published in this database were created with the support of JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number JP17K12967.
